Clerkenwell

This is probably my last post for awhile as I go back to the States on Monday. It's hard to believe that it's be over a year since I first came here. I did a walking tour of Clerkenwell-an area just north of St. Paul's where the clerks of the court and the various counting houses in the City used to live. Now it's a rather expensive part of London to live in (most places in London are expensive, of course!)

The remains of the Priory gate of St. John's- from the 14th century
The 18th century parish church of Clerkenwell
The back of St. Bart's Church- parts of it date from Norman times
One of the few half-timbered buildings left in London
Smithfield's market- the meat market- the building dates from the 1860s
The Charterhouse- from Tudor times- Catherine Parr used to live here- it belonged to her second husband
